The BEST Brownies
With homeschooling my kiddos, we wanted to do something each week that would show them how to not just do regular school work like math and english, but something that would help them in another avenue in this world. My little one LOVES to help me cook, so we decided, each week we’ll do a Cooking 101 class. With Valentine’s Day this week, we decided to make Valentine’s Brownies. And oh em goodness, they were THE BEST BROWNIES EVER! Not made from a box… made from SCRATCH. And no, these are NOT a health food!
For the Brownies:
- 1 cup salted butter
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate morsals
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
- 1/2 tsp himalayan salt
- 1/2 tst baking powder
For the Garnish
- Ghiardelli White Chocolate bar (I used 1 bar)
- Additional chocolate for melting in red or pink (optional)
- Valentine’s sprinkles
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 13 x 9 inch baking dish with parchment paper. Set aside.
- In a medium-sized saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Remove from heat and add in chocolate chips and sugar.
- Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Add in eggs, one at a time, stirring completely after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
- Add the cocoa poweder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Using big strokes, stir in JUST until mixed and no longer see dry ingredients. DO NOT BEAT OR OVER STIR.
- Pour batter into dish and bake for about 22-25 minutes. Remove from oven and cool completely before decorating.
- Cut cooled brownies into squares.
- Melt chocolate bar (and additional chocolate) in a double broiler. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Drizzle with melted chocolate as desired. Immediately decorate with sprinkles and transfer to a clean sheet of parchment paper to allow the chocolate to harden.
Serve with vanilla ice cream, or enjoy on their own. And tell me how you liked them!
